Portable Satellite

Portable satellite systems are perfect for people on the move and provide direct communication to orbital satellites. These systems are perfect for campers and travellers who can park up at any time and be up and running in a matter of minutes.

There are no subscriptions to pay with a portable satellite system because it relies on a FTA (Free to Air) reception. The dish can be freestanding which is fine for open spaces or you can attach the dish to a vehicle or side of a caravan or trailer. Additional height is always an advantage because it will ensure there are no obstacles so the signal has a clear line of sight between the dish and the satellite which will always bring clearer and stronger signals.

Most portable satellite kits come with a meter so you can easily point the dish in the correct angle to get the best picture. There are various satellites that you can connect to and the instructions will normally give out these details with the package. These would normally be pre-programmed into the receiver for you depending on the Country where you purchased the kit. For example if you was in Europe then the system would be pre-programmed to connect to Astra, Hotbird, Sirius, Hispasat and Hellasat satellites.

Once you have installed the dish either on a stand or securely fixed to a vehicle or trailer then you can connect up the wiring that will go directly to the receiver. A scart lead is needed to connect the receiver to the television. The programs can of course be changed by doing a simple san on the receiver. If you receive foreign channels then you will just need to point the dish in a different position using the meter.

Larger satellite dishes will always bring the better picture because they can receiver stronger signals but smaller 40cm dishes are fine for travelling. Most systems will run on various electrical currents so power is never a problem. Portable satellites are a very useful bit of kit for when we are on the move. They can be installed in minutes though it may take a little longer to get used to the meter and positioning of the dish to get the best picture possible.
